Our Brand Story

We found our logo on the street.

More than 30 years ago, Lisa and Wei Bee embarked on a journey to Hong Kong to seek inspiration for their Sweetwaters vision. In the bustling downtown market, they encountered a street artist well-versed in the timeless craft of making chops. Used by Chinese printmakers for thousands of years, chops serve as a person’s signature, and by the 1990s street artists had popularized them with tourists. An anonymous artist created the souvenir of a lifetime — a chop that represented Sweet on the top and Water on the bottom. To our surprise, he used ancient Chinese characters instead of modern characters, so many people today do not recognize the meaning within. But we do, and we’ve grown to like the use of the ancient characters, as it dives deeper into our heritage and cultural history.

The Sweetwaters mark remains the same to this day. To some, it’s a logo. To our dozens of franchise owners, it’s a growing brand. But to us, it’s an origin story. And a reminder of the path we’ve taken, the choices we’ve made, and the people with whom we’ve shared our dream.
